Why Radon Lung Cancer is a Concern
Radon gas is a serious cause of concern for many who rent homes across the United States. If you have ever rented a home, you probably know that there is always a bit of confusion as to whether or not you are responsible for specific repairs and maintenance. Often, the landlord is responsible, but is your landlord responsible to provide radon mitigation to reduce radon lung cancer if your home has high levels of radon gas? There is a group of national organizations dedicated to fighting for the rights of those renting homes, and homeowners across the U.S. to improve home safety. This group is made up of the U.S. Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Together these organizations are able to pool resources, and communicate problems and ideas to solve them in regard to public health and home safety.
HUD Takes Charge Against Radon Lung Cancer
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has just taken a strong stance for renter safety by making it a requirement that all multi-family homes that are financed through them must have a radon test. This is a huge step forward as this gas is known to kill approximately 20,000 civilians each year, making it one of America’s biggest concerns in regard to health and lung cancer.
Any multi-family home that is financed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, also known as HUD, that has high levels of radon gas will be required to have a mitigation system installed. This is important as this gas is can be reduced by a rate of up to 99% if a mitigation system is properly installed, making your home safe.
The American Lung Association has commended HUD for their actions, and steps toward improving the safety of homes across America. The American Lung Association notes that this will not only improve the air quality in homes by reducing the amount of gas in homes, but that it will also reduce the amount of moisture, and improve ventilation. This means that not only will radon lung cancer rates be reduced, but also that other lung conditions should be improved.
